New U.S. HIV cases to cost $12 bln a year

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Future treatment for the 40,000 people infected with HIV in the United States every year will cost $12.1 billion annually, a new study showed on Wednesday.
U.S. patients infected with HIV can expect medical bills for current care related to the disease of $618,900 during their lifetimes, according to the study, which will appear in the November issue of Medical Care.
Current medical bills for U.S. HIV patients from the beginning of care until death average $2,100 per month. The projected lifetime HIV-related medical costs were based on life expectancies of 24.2 years for patients in optimal HIV care.
The study is intended to provide guidance for policy makers and ensure appropriate funds are allocated for HIV care and prevention, according to its authors.
"If they rely on outdated cost information, treatment programs will be underfunded and the economic value of HIV prevention will be understated," lead author Dr. Bruce Schackman, the head of the health policy at Weill Medical College of Cornell University's department of public health, said.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that 250,000 people with HIV in the United States -- a quarter of the total with the disease -- do not know they are infected.
Since combination therapy became available to U.S. HIV patients in 1996, life expectancies have risen, but so have medical bills. Medications now make up more than 70 percent of the expense of HIV treatment, according to the study.

I'm posting this just for the info for now.
And for some perspective.
It's estimated that of those 40,000 new infections per year, at least half, or 20,000, are "men who have sex with men."
The cost of treating just ONE of those men is of course immense:
$618,000 over 24 years.
Multiplied by 20,000 new cases per year.
Joining the 500,000 or more American MSM currently infected and all of whom must be treated.
And of course those figures are just the medical costs; they completely omit the social costs -- lost productivity for example.
And the HUMAN cost.
No one, except us, ever bothers to talk about that.
Instead, it's all -- "You're a homo -- get used to it."
If you have sex with men, this is your lot in life: a painful and degrading act followed by a long, lingering, very expensive illness for which there is NO cure.
Compare that to FROT, which is completely and absolutely free.
And the effect of Frot upon the well-being and mentality of the Frot Man.
Ill health is NOT his lot in life.
He's not fated to be sick just because he likes guys.
Being into other MEN is not a death sentence for him.
He need not and does not think of himself that way.
Nor is his sexual life demeaning.
Rather than suffering cost and loss, what he experiences is a joyful exaltation of his Masculinity, an honoring of his Manhood, a sacrament which acknowledges his sacred Phallus and his holy Manliness -- every time he connects with his Warrior Brother.
That's the TRUTH.
If we as a nation spent $100,000 per year for the next five years educating men about Frot -- we still wouldn't have spent as much as will be spent caring for one gay male who gets infected due to the AIDS establishment's unwillingess to discuss non-anal alternatives.
DUH!
How dumb can you be?
I guess if you're an AIDS Inc ANAL Inc "safer-sex counselor" -- the answer is: there's no limit to your stupidity.
The Dutch Experiment proved -- not only do men not have to do anal, THEY'RE BETTER OFF WITHOUT IT.
FACTS:
We cannot treat our way out of HIV.
Prevention is the only solution.
Anal penetration is a meaningless, soul-destroying miasma of disease, degradation, and pain.
Condom campaigns don't work.
FROT DOES.
