President-elect Obama and Cultural Change

Cultures change.

That's the premise of my work.

I've been talking about it for eight years.

And you've all just seen dramatic proof of it -- as dramatic, probably, as you'll ever see.

Forty years ago, a man with Mr Obama's skin color could not have become president.

Nor twenty.

Nor ten.

Nor, most people agree, even two years ago.

But Mr Obama is now the President-elect of the United States of America.

Cultures change.

Yet when I tell you that the culture of "men who have sex with men" can change --

You don't believe me.

When I show you that the culture of "men who love men" was greatly different two thousand years ago -- you say, that was then, this is now.

No.

It's always then, and it's always now.

Your lives could be radically different, if you would do what Mr Obama has done -- to embrace, and believe in, change.

No doubt he's a very smart and capable person.

But so are you.

Or at least so you could be.

If you would only try.

If you would only try.

Here's what you need to do:

1. Donate -- so that we can do meaningful outreach.

2. Put together a Regional Chapter -- so that you can have meaningful support.

3. Come out -- not as "a gay," not as "a straight," not as some creature intermediate between the two -- but as a MAN.

Tell the world that you're a Man, and that part of being a Man means Loving another Man.

That's all you have to do.

All three are well within your power.

Within your grasp.

The future is yours --

if you will just reach out --

and take it.
